General Information

The municipal landfill is open to ratepayers of the RM only, and is accessed from Highway 20 south of Crystal Springs, SK eastbound onto Road 776:

Closed all Statutory Holidays

Although the landfill has a full-time attendant during operating hours, patrons are expected to put items into the appropriate piles


The landfill is permitted to remain in operation until June 1, 2021.  The Ministry of Environment will permit the landfill to continue operations until the existing cell (hole) is filled.  Pinter & Associates Ltd will be out to assess remaining capacity in March, if the cell is deemed to have operating capacity left we will be able to apply for another 1-yr extension to operate to the Ministry.

The Council continues to review possible expansion plans and an overall Waste Management Strategy upon the closure of the municipal landfill.

Accepted Waste 

    The materials listed below are the only materials that are permitted to be disposed of at the landfill, in accordance with our permit from the Ministry of Environment:

  • Household waste including materials that could be otherwise recycled
  • Appliances (with freon/refrigerant removed)
  • Batteries
  • Tires (no rims)
  • Metal
  • Natural (clean, bare) wood
  • Furniture

Unacceptable Waste

    The materials listed below are examples of the materials that are prohibited to be disposed of at the landfill, in accordance with our permit from the Ministry of Environment:

  • Shingles, drywall or other construction materials
  • Treated, painted or stained lumber
  • Propane tanks
  • Paint, oil, petroleum and associated by-products
  • Animal remains 
  • Garden waste (eg. corn stalks)
  • Campers, boats, vehicles or similar
  • Spoiled grain
  • Grain bags
  • Fridges or Freezes with freon
  • Electronics
